HALIFAX (Nova Scotia), May 1, 2023 – On the evening of February 12, NOVUS Glass Bridgewater, alongside co-sponsor The Bridgewater Chamber of Commerce, hosted a family friendly event at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre that generated smiles and donations for the local food bank.
“Though free skates are not that unusual, the combination of the non-profit, chamber and for-profit sector was significant,” said Jeff Rosevear, manager of NOVUS Glass Bridgewater and ex-volunteer fire chief. “We hope to plan more events for our community, especially after the successful turnout.”
Bridgewater is a small town located on the south shore of Nova Scotia with a population of about 8,000. The town prides itself on building strong community ties for business and charitable work. Rosevear is committed to finding new ways of involving the shop in community endeavours – which led him to organizing the charitable event.
It welcomed more than 100 attendants; despite being held on the same day as the Super Bowl. Included were an hour-long free skate for people of all ages and donations of non-perishable items, collected by the local food bank.
“Attendance was extraordinary, especially as it was Super Bowl Sunday,” Rosevear said. “A great time was had by all, which has left NOVUS Glass Bridgewater looking forward to sponsoring more community events in the future.”
The free skate was directed towards families, especially with children, to get out and enjoy a winter activity together while getting to meet other families in town. Helmets, skates and snacks were all provided as needed. Entry into the event was free, but food-bank donations were encouraged.
Initially, the event was meant to be a one-off collaboration between the Chamber, the food bank, and NOVUS Glass Bridgewater.
“We’re pleased to see NOVUS Glass Bridgewater sponsoring their community,” said Daryll O’Keefe, senior vice president of Fix Network Canada. “The initiative and continued dedication that our shops display to their communities is crucial in showing appreciation to the areas in which they operate.”
